Advice and information for new international faculty and academic staff

The University Welcome Center offers information and advice to help new faculty and academic staff feel at home in Bern.

Who can use Welcome Center services?

  • Professors and lecturers
  • Post-docs
  • Doctoral students
  • Visiting scholars
  • Applicants for academic positions (e.g., during hiring negotiations)
  • Academic departments

The Welcome Center deals with questions relating to settling in Bern, including living in Bern, medical insurance, child care, schools and learning German. By organizing welcome events, German lessons and intercultural workshops, the Welcome Center helps new arrivals to settle in Bern.

However, the recruiting institutes and the Human Resources Office take care of organizational questions concerning an appointment (work permit, work contract, salary).
